Storing Map Data on Devices Provides Big Benefits for Drivers

Offline navigation for truck drivers can be invaluable. When you’re out on the road without service or limited data coverage, that’s when you need your maps the most.

Downloading offline maps offers many advantages to both fleet and driver. Instead of waiting for maps to download over the data network, drivers can have their stops and routes optimized without giving a second thought to spotty service.

Offline maps also provide immense cost saving measures. GPS navigation systems that require online map data can easily consume half a MB of data per mile, per truck. In addition to cutting data costs, offline maps cut down on the amount of time a driver gets lost and has to spend on fuel and time getting back on the right route. This can also help decrease the risk of accidents, fines, and negative impact on Driver Safety scoring systems (CSA scores, for example) due to slow map data downloads.

You can learn more about the benefits of offline navigation here.

Powered by industry standard PC*MILER truck-specific routing, CoPilot Truck offers truck-specific  GPS navigation for your Android or iOS device with reliable offline maps.  The maps are stored directly on-board your device for easy and dependable routing to your destination. CoPilot Truck’s routing software also uses the devices’ processor to bring you fast, automatic re-route calculation.

CoPilot Truck, available for Android and iOS, comes equipped with tons of advanced navigation features.

Michigan Adds Drivewyze Weigh Station BypassJune 16, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MICHIGAN ADDS DRIVEWYZE WEIGH STATION BYPASS

Addition of Wolverine State Completes Truck Corridor to Canada through Midwest

BURLINGAME, Calif., June 16, 2014 – Drivewyze announces Michigan has added Drivewyze PreClear bypass service with the activation of the mobile-based weigh station bypass service at two new locations.

The Drivewyze service has gone live at weigh stations located near Monroe, Mich., along northbound U.S. Interstate 75 (Detroit-Toledo Expressway) about 40 miles southwest of Detroit and U.S. Interstate 96 near Fowlerville, Mich., about 60 miles northwest of Detroit. More locations will be added later.

Customers using the Android version of the Drivewyze app can now receive bypasses at these two active Michigan sites, while Drivewyze customers using iOS or other in-cab platforms will be able to receive bypasses pending an upcoming software update.

“We’re excited about the implications of adding these two Michigan locations to the Drivewyze weigh station network,” said Brian Heath, president and CEO of Drivewyze. “With the addition of these locations, the Drivewyze PreClear bypass service will be available on two major truck routes that connect to the Ambassador Bridge. The Detroit-Windsor crossing is the second busiest trade corridor in North America. In 2010, the value of exports shipped to Canada by truck through Detroit totaled $55.1 billion.

“Nearly ¾ of the outgoing commercial traffic on the Ambassador Bridge originates from states other than Michigan, primarily Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas,” Heath added. “Almost 61 percent of incoming commercial trade crossing in the Detroit-Windsor region continues through to destinations throughout the United States. We expect these two Michigan sites alone to experience more bypass activity than all of the sites in Texas and Florida combined.

“Many more truck operators and fleets that travel along this busy corridor will now find nearly continuous coverage with Drivewyze PreClear along their routes all the way from the Gulf Coast to Canada,” Heath said. “We now have 333 fixed and mobile sites in 25 states, surpassing the growth of any other program.”

Heath said the Drivewyze bypass service offers state commercial vehicle inspectors a tool to more efficiently screen vehicles while allowing safety-conscious fleets and owner-operators to bypass – all without slowing the flow of freight traffic on these two busy freeways.

Drivewyze leverages cellular networks and the internet to add transponder-like functionality to tablets, smartphones and select electronic on-board recorders. Unlike traditional methods that use dedicated short-range communication transponders in every truck, Drivewyze doesn’t require the installation of additional equipment.

The Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass application can be used on Android and iOS-based tablets or smartphones, and is integrated into PeopleNet Blu.2 and tablet devices, and the Zonar 2020. Rand McNally and Drivewyze recently announced an agreement to provide the Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service for Rand McNally’s suite of mobile fleet management devices. Drivewyze PreClear 3.0, the newest version of the weigh station application, comes with Weigh Station Heads Up service for real-time notifications at more than 700 weigh stations and inspection sites nationwide.

While the Drivewyze PreClear heads-up service is free, the bypass service is subscription-based and starts at $15.75 per vehicle per month with free trial offers and volume discounts available. With the average weigh station pull in costing $8.68 or more, according to an FMCSA study, that means that a Drivewyze subscription pays for itself if a driver bypasses just two weigh stations within one month.

Weigh Station Bypass Paying Dividends to Owner-Operator Marty LesterJune 12, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEIGH STATION BYPASS PAYING DIVIDENDS TO MARTY LESTER

Owner Operator Saves Time and Frustrations

FRANKFORT, Ind., June 12, 2014 –  “It’s the best money I can spend.”

For an owner-operator that’s high praise, but that’s exactly how Marty Lester, an owner-operator from Frankfort, Ind., feels about being able to bypass weigh stations though Drivewyze PreClear technology.

Hauling general freight and refrigerated loads while leased to Integrity Logistics, Lester generally makes north-to-south runs from Michigan to Florida and sometimes Texas. “Right now produce is running heavy so I’m making a lot of runs to Florida. Drivewyze is in the majority of states I travel – including Florida and Texas – so it’s great that I can save time and money by bypassing weigh stations.” Drivewyze is available at 333 sites in 25 states, with more being added each month.

The Drivewyze PreClear weigh station app is loaded on Lester’s Samsung Galaxy 3 smartphone, which functions like a mobile transponder using cell phone technology. As Lester approaches within 2 miles of a Drivewyze-enabled weigh station or inspection site, the service alerts Lester with a message on the screen “Inspection Site – 2 Miles.” The DOT number of Integrity, which has a high safety score, is then transmitted to the weigh station.  Then at one mile, Lester is alerted with a bypass – a green “GO,” or pull-in notification.

Since starting the service in December, Lester has enjoyed 64 bypasses out of 71 bypass opportunities. In April alone, he had 14 out of 14 bypasses.  According to a report that Drivewyze provided Lester, he’s saved 5.3 hours of time by bypassing weigh stations and saved more than $500 in time and fuel since starting the service.

“It really is a time saver and convenience for me,” said Lester. “Just a couple bypasses per month pays for the service.” An FMCSA study showed a single bypass made for several minutes can save drivers $8.68 in lost time and fuel costs.

Lester said he also likes the fact that Drivewzye is dedicated to privacy for drivers. “I was at first concerned about that, but after talking with the folks at Drivewyze and getting to know them, I’m very comfortable. They don’t track me, or my hours of service, or share any of my driving information with law enforcement. That’s important to me and I wouldn’t be using their service if it were otherwise.”

Drivewyze PreClear 3.0, the newest version of the weigh station application, comes with Weigh Station Heads Up service for real-time notifications for more than 700 weigh stations and inspection sites nationwide.

While the Drivewyze PreClear heads-up service is free, the bypass service is subscription-based and starts at $15.75 per vehicle per month with free trial offers and volume discounts available.

ATA Welcome Drivewyze as Featured Product

Arlington, Va. – Today, American Trucking Associations announced it has added Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service into its roster of Featured Products.

“Trucking is becoming increasingly dependent on technology and data, and products like Drivewyze are helping fleets move America’s freight more efficiently and safely than ever before,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “We are pleased to welcome them into our Featured Product stable.”

“The Drivewyze weigh station bypass service is experiencing unprecedented growth, thanks to the continued support of both the commercial trucking industry and commercial vehicle safety enforcement agencies,” Drivewyze President and CEO Brian Heath said. “Drivers and carriers want more bypass opportunities, higher ROI and world class customer service. Drivewyze is proving our commitment to meeting these needs by rolling out comprehensive statewide coverage areas, producing data-driven results and being fanatical about customer service. Our program opens the door to allowing more carriers to participate and benefit from bypass services and our technology allows us to deliver more locations, including coverage at mobile inspection sites. For example, in the case of Texas and Florida alone carriers using Drivewyze will enjoy bypass opportunities at over 90 sites, which is 3 times as many locations as any other bypass service. Nationally, Drivewyze continues to grow quickly and now offers bypass services at 326 sites in 24 states.

“Industry and partner support has been key to our growth, and we are proud to have the support of the American Trucking Associations,” Heath said. “Through our agreements with partners, fleets are now able to use the Drivewyze service on their existing in-cab equipment, leveraging their ELD investments and eliminating the need for additional transponders. This means that safe carriers can now enjoy the benefits of a secure bypass service on the equipment of their choice.”

Indiana And Alabama Now Offering Drivewyze Bypass ServiceMay 20, 2014

INDIANA AND ALABAMA ADD DRIVEWYZE WEIGH STATION BYPASS

More Locations Also Added in Texas Makes Drivewyze Fastest Growing Bypass Service

BURLINGAME, Calif., May 19, 2014 – Drivewyze announces Indiana and Alabama have added Drivewyze PreClear bypass service with the activation of the mobile-based weigh station bypass service at 10 new locations.

The Drivewyze PreClear bypass service has gone live at nine locations in Indiana and one in Alabama. It also has been added to 12 more sites in Texas, bringing the total number of locations in the Lone Star State to 18.

“With the addition of these 22 new locations in Alabama, Indiana and Texas, Drivewyze PreClear bypass service continues to be the fastest growing bypass service in the United States,” said Brian Heath, president and CEO of Drivewyze. “We now offer bypasses at 318 fixed weigh stations and mobile inspection sites in 24 states, surpassing the growth of any other program. With more locations pending in Texas and with many other states coming on board, Drivewyze is pleased to be providing more bypass sites than any other bypass service.”

A map with all of the currently active weigh stations across the country is available on the Drivewyze web site: http://drivewyze.com/coverage-map/.

“There are two reasons for our rapid growth,” Heath said. “The first is the high value we offer truck and fleet operators with our bypass service.”

An FMCSA study showed a single bypass made for several minutes can save $8.68 in lost time and fuel costs. Also, Drivewyze offers a complimentary loss reporting tool on  Drivewyze-enabled electronic logging devices (ELDs) that calculates how much fleets can save with the Drivewyze weigh station bypass service activated.

“As we add our bypass service to more states, long-haul and regional carriers find they have even more opportunities to save money,” Heath added.

“The second reason for our growth is that more state commercial vehicle inspection officials are recognizing the value of using Drivewyze technology to prescreen safe commercial operators,” Heath said.

Capt. Tim Pullin, commander of the Motor Carrier Safety Unit of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, said Drivewyze provides commercial vehicle inspection officers an additional tool to improve highway safety. “Our officers can concentrate their efforts on vehicles that should be inspected,” Pullin added. “They can screen unsafe carriers and maximize resources and that benefits the motoring public.”

Major Mike Eslinger of the Indiana State Police agrees. “Qualified carriers, whose safety records meet Indiana state requirements, can stay in the flow of traffic,” Eslinger said. “That’s important for our state’s economy and for the nation’s economy since several key truck transportation corridors cross our state.”
