Top Podcasts for the Road

Modified on January 31, 2023

One of the fastest-growing segments of entertainment is Podcasts. And for those working in trucks as your home office, they give a nice diversion from listening to music. And hey, you might just learn something new!

There’s lots out there, so buckle up and start exploring. Here are some of our favorite podcasts for truckers:

Casual listening

If you’re looking for something that covers a wide range of topics, people, and industries the Joe Rogan Experience and WTF with Marc Macron are great podcasts. Both shows bring on special guests, many of them well-known in their respective fields for in-depth interviews. The shows are generally light-hearted in nature and wildly entertaining. There’s a ton of episodes for each that will appeal to just about anyone.

Fun and educational

If you’re generally a curious person and enjoy learning about how things work, Stuff You Should Know is worth checking out. From how wastewater treatments work to the history of soda, you’ll learn something new about topics you probably wouldn’t learn about otherwise.

Sports

If you enjoy sports documentaries, 30 For 30 podcasts are worth checking out. It covers a wide range of fascinating sports stories – some you’ve heard of and some you likely haven’t. If you’ve seen any of ESPN’s 30-For-30 shows, it’s very similar — though the podcasts tell stories that haven’t been covered on TV.

To listen to the more-day-to day developments in the world of sports, The Dan Patrick Show is a classic. Dan’s been in the sports business for as long as we can remember, and always has top athletes on for interviews. Episodes are posted each day so that you don’t miss out on the latest news.

Personal growth

If you find yourself motivated and eager to improve your finances or overall well-being, The Dave Ramsay Show is great. He offers tips to solve many common financial problems many of us face. Dave takes calls from guests and shares his expertise on what he would do if he were in their shoes. You can learn a lot by listening to the advice he gives others.

If you’re looking for general advice for how you can grow as a person — become happier, meet goals you set for yourself, become healthier — the Tony Robbins podcast covers it all. If you have something specific you would like to improve, he probably has an episode on it.

Trucking

Want to learn about the latest developments in our industry? Freightwaves has a podcast called What the Truck that covers key topics and current events affecting the industry.

Heavy Duty Trucking also has an informative short podcast series called HDT Talks Trucking that talks about developments with trucking equipment, technology and future outlook for the industry.

For a driver’s point of view, Chris Polk hosts the podcast An American Truck Driver. Chris, who has been in and out of trucking for 20 years shares his experiences on the road so that you can learn from his mistakes and capitalize on the lessons he has learned.

All of the podcasts mentioned above are available for streaming through iHeart Radio, Spotify and other streaming services. They are also available for download through the App Store and Google Play.

These are just a few of the many podcasts out there – there’s something for everyone. If you find a good podcast, an hour or two will fly by and you won’t even know. They can be that entertaining.
