Trucker Turned Millionaire Keeps on Truckin’
Some lottery winners have been known to show up in new Cadillacs, Hummers or BMWs to claim their winnings. But not Smalley Trucking Company driver Eric Tackett of Sutherlin, Oregon. He showed up to claim the $9.4 million Megabucks prize in his company vehicle – a Freightliner Cascadia.
Tackett, who chose to take a lump sum payment of $3 million after taxes, first delivered his load before he showed up at the Oregon Lottery headquarters in Salem to claim the prize.
Tackett matched all six numbers to win the Aug. 31 drawing. He bought the winning Megabucks ticket at the TA Truck Stop in Coburg, a regular stop for Tackett and his wife, Beth, who routinely accompanies him on his trips. Tackett, who hauls steel up and down the I-5 corridor, said he plans to keep working.
