It’s not a test for which you can do last-minute cramming. But by taking a little more time with your vehicle inspections, and paying a little more attention to the conditions of your tires, in the next few days, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) 29th annual International Roadcheck – shouldn’t cause you to break out in a cold sweat.
As you may already be aware, every year 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial, territorial and federal inspectors in jurisdictions across North America, conduct a blitz of commercial vehicle inspections over a 72-hour period. This year’s Roadcheck, which will focus on tires, begins Tuesday, June 7, and continues through Thursday, June 9. With a little more diligence with your vehicle inspections starting this weekend and moving forward, you may be able to take away some advantages from random inspections during Roadcheck and in the months and years to come.
Clean inspections during Roadcheck and beyond would likely help improve your safety score, especially if you’re an owner-operator running under your own authority. If you’re a company driver, clean inspections can also help contribute to your fleet’s overall safety score. In most cases, improvements in safety scores can eventually lead to more opportunities for weigh station bypasses down the road. If you have Drivewyze weigh station bypass, you likely already know the advantages of more bypasses – such as saving time and money.
To help you be prepared for those inspections, your electronic logging device service provider or your company may offer some tips. Many equipment vendors including tire, wheel and brake manufacturers, also offer some great recommendations, published in various truck trade publications and on You Tube. Here are just a few of them:
