MICHIGAN ADDS DRIVEWYZE WEIGH STATION BYPASS

Addition of Wolverine State Completes Truck Corridor to Canada through Midwest

BURLINGAME, Calif., June 16, 2014 – Drivewyze announces Michigan has added Drivewyze PreClear bypass service with the activation of the mobile-based weigh station bypass service at two new locations.

The Drivewyze service has gone live at weigh stations located near Monroe, Mich., along northbound U.S. Interstate 75 (Detroit-Toledo Expressway) about 40 miles southwest of Detroit and U.S. Interstate 96 near Fowlerville, Mich., about 60 miles northwest of Detroit. More locations will be added later.

Customers using the Android version of the Drivewyze app can now receive bypasses at these two active Michigan sites, while Drivewyze customers using iOS or other in-cab platforms will be able to receive bypasses pending an upcoming software update.

“We’re excited about the implications of adding these two Michigan locations to the Drivewyze weigh station network,” said Brian Heath, president and CEO of Drivewyze. “With the addition of these locations, the Drivewyze PreClear bypass service will be available on two major truck routes that connect to the Ambassador Bridge. The Detroit-Windsor crossing is the second busiest trade corridor in North America. In 2010, the value of exports shipped to Canada by truck through Detroit totaled $55.1 billion.

“Nearly ¾ of the outgoing commercial traffic on the Ambassador Bridge originates from states other than Michigan, primarily Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas,” Heath added. “Almost 61 percent of incoming commercial trade crossing in the Detroit-Windsor region continues through to destinations throughout the United States. We expect these two Michigan sites alone to experience more bypass activity than all of the sites in Texas and Florida combined.

“Many more truck operators and fleets that travel along this busy corridor will now find nearly continuous coverage with Drivewyze PreClear along their routes all the way from the Gulf Coast to Canada,” Heath said. “We now have 333 fixed and mobile sites in 25 states, surpassing the growth of any other program.”

Heath said the Drivewyze bypass service offers state commercial vehicle inspectors a tool to more efficiently screen vehicles while allowing safety-conscious fleets and owner-operators to bypass – all without slowing the flow of freight traffic on these two busy freeways.

Drivewyze leverages cellular networks and the internet to add transponder-like functionality to tablets, smartphones and select electronic on-board recorders. Unlike traditional methods that use dedicated short-range communication transponders in every truck, Drivewyze doesn’t require the installation of additional equipment.

The Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass application can be used on Android and iOS-based tablets or smartphones, and is integrated into PeopleNet Blu.2 and tablet devices, and the Zonar 2020. Rand McNally and Drivewyze recently announced an agreement to provide the Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service for Rand McNally’s suite of mobile fleet management devices. Drivewyze PreClear 3.0, the newest version of the weigh station application, comes with Weigh Station Heads Up service for real-time notifications at more than 700 weigh stations and inspection sites nationwide.

While the Drivewyze PreClear heads-up service is free, the bypass service is subscription-based and starts at $15.75 per vehicle per month with free trial offers and volume discounts available. With the average weigh station pull in costing $8.68 or more, according to an FMCSA study, that means that a Drivewyze subscription pays for itself if a driver bypasses just two weigh stations within one month.
