Is e-Inspection mandatory?

No, e-Inspection through Drivewyze is not currently mandatory for fleets or drivers. Participation in e-Inspection programs is voluntary and designed to provide operational benefits to those carriers and drivers who choose to adopt this digital approach to roadside inspections. That said, many fleets are increasingly embracing e-Inspections because of the significant time savings, efficiency gains, and compliance advantages they offer.

e-Inspection is part of a broader industry movement toward connected truck technology and digital transformation within the transportation sector. As such, Drivewyze has partnered with select enforcement agencies and transportation departments in North America to implement and expand e-Inspection programs. These programs allow participating vehicles to electronically transmit inspection-related information, such as credentials, safety scores, and vehicle details, to enforcement personnel in real time.

However, participation remains optional, and carriers can continue to undergo traditional, manual roadside inspections if they choose not to use e-Inspection or if they are operating in areas where the program has not yet been implemented.

It’s important to note that while e-Inspection itself is not mandatory, compliance with all applicable safety regulations, credential requirements, and inspection protocols is still required for all commercial vehicles. Even fleets participating in e-Inspection programs are subject to full manual inspections if enforcement officials determine that a more thorough check is necessary.

Looking to the future, as digital infrastructure and enforcement technology continue to evolve, e-Inspections may become more widespread and potentially play a greater role in regulatory processes. However, Drivewyze is committed to keeping its e-Inspection program voluntary, providing fleets with flexibility and choice in how they engage with these digital inspection opportunities.

In short, while e-Inspection is not mandatory, it offers a powerful tool for fleets seeking to reduce delays, improve efficiency, and demonstrate a proactive commitment to compliance and safety.
