What happens if I get pulled into a weigh station even with PreClear?

Even when using Drivewyze PreClear, there are situations where a driver may still be required to pull into a weigh station or inspection site—and this is a normal, expected part of how the system operates. PreClear does not guarantee a bypass every time; instead, it provides bypass opportunities based on the vehicle’s safety profile, credentials, and jurisdiction-specific regulations.

Here’s how it works:

As a vehicle equipped with Drivewyze approaches a participating weigh station, the system transmits relevant information—such as carrier safety scores, registration details, and credential status—to enforcement authorities. These agencies use that data, along with their own rules and criteria, to determine whether a bypass is granted or if the vehicle must pull in for inspection.

If the driver receives a “bypass granted” notification on their in-cab device, they can legally continue driving past the inspection site without stopping.

However, there are several situations where a driver may still be required to pull in:

  • Enforcement Discretion: Regardless of a fleet’s safety record, enforcement agencies always retain the authority to conduct inspections. Random inspections are part of maintaining roadway safety.
  • Safety or Credential Flags: If a vehicle’s safety score falls below jurisdiction thresholds, or there are issues with registration, permits, or credentials, a bypass may be denied, and the vehicle must pull in.
  • Non-Participating Sites: If the inspection site is not yet integrated with the Drivewyze network, bypass services won’t apply, and drivers must comply with standard inspection requirements.
  • Active Inspection Orders: In some cases, drivers may be flagged for inspection based on roadside observations, prior violations, or inspection blitzes.

It’s essential for drivers to always follow in-cab notifications and posted signage. Ignoring a required pull-in order can result in penalties, fines, or enforcement actions.

In summary, while Drivewyze PreClear significantly reduces the number of inspections, it does not eliminate them entirely. Compliance with all bypass instructions and inspection requirements remains mandatory to ensure safety, legality, and smooth operations.
